Spring Tulips Window Tutorial

We love to make Waldorf Window Stars that follow the seasons. Here are the instructions for a beautiful row of spring tulips to adorn your windows, bringing the light and colours of Spring into your home. The folding is meditative and calming, and the results are so cheerful and joyful.

 

 

You will need:
Deluxe Waxed Kite Paper (any size - we used 16 x 16 cm)
Glue stick
Some reusable tack, sticky tape or glue

 

 

1.  Start by making the petals, here we have chosen a golden orange piece of Kite Paper. Trim the paper to 6cm x 10cm and crease it in half lengthways.
2.  Fold the top 2 corners and the bottom 2 corners to line up with the centre crease (as shown above).
3.  Fold the top 2 flaps back to line up with the outside edge (as seen above).
4.  Fold the two top outside edges inwards towards the centre crease as seen.

 

 

5.  You will now have this shape shown above top left.
6.  Fold the bottom 2 outside edges in towards the central crease as shown.
7.  Make 3 or 4 of them for each flower.
8.  Using a small dab of craft glue or stick glue, stick each petal on top of eachother, lining up with the central crease as seen.

 

 

9.  Next we will make the stem of the tulip. Trim a piece of green Kite Paper to 6cm x 16cm.  You can also vary the lengths to give interest to your display.
10.  Fold it in half lenthways to form a central crease.
11.  Fold the long outside edges in, lining up with the central crease.
12.  Fold it in half lengthways to complete the stem, use a bit of glue along the inside edge and press it closed to keep it together.

 

 

13.  Next we make the leaves of the tulip.  Trim a piece of Kite Paper to 6cm x 10cm and fold it in half to make a central crease.
14.  Fold the top and bottom corners inwards to line up with the central crease, as shown above.
15.  Fold the bottom outside edges in again towards the central crease as seen above.
16.  Make 1 or 2 for each tulip and then stick them with a small amount of glue onto the stem.

 

 

You can vary the colours of your petals, and the length of the stem for each tulip too.
Once they are complete use a small dab of craft glue, stick glue, tape or reusable tack to secure your tulip to your window and let it shine with the light of the sun!

Veronica, Adriana & friends met up, had lashings of tea, and made some fresh window tulips.

This year, 2025, Adriana showed us how to make a pretty origami tulips.
We used Kite Paper and Transparent Paper Pastel Rainbow, both 15cm square.

The leaves stalk are made by dividing a square sheet into thirds
