Christoph Kraul
Kraul are one of Myriad's very favourite brands. A family run business started up by Waldorf maths teacher Walter Kraul, now run by son Christoph. They remain a small business with employees that have been with them for many years. A few nearby workshops for adults with learning disabilities help them with certain production elements. Kraul use local raw materails and keep their production as environmentally friendly as possible.
Kraul specialise in making educational kits that explain to children how things work. Natural phenomenon are unconsciously experienced by us all in our day to day lives when using machines and gadets. However, only through experimenting do the basic principles of physics become understandable. Kraul hope to install a lifelong interest in these phenomena and an awareness of their presence in our lives.
Playing with Kraul toys calls for imagination and skill. Occasionally supervision, encouragement and help from adults is required, however an essential characteristic of Kraul products is that the unfinished toy is only made complete through the play and imagination of the child. This is an integral principle behind Krau's kits - that children add the vital ingredient that makes the toy 'go'!
Kraul want to encourage children to “take things into their own hands”, to experiment, learn and have fun. Techniques and machines for making our daily work easier are all around us – but for the most part, the mechanism used is unseen.
